What holds you back the most in your business?
When you are in business, its really easy to be distracted by roadblocks to success that are inconsequential to moving you forward to achieving your goals.
I know, I’ve worked my own business for over 12 years, and can easily put up my hand to avoiding the things I know I have to do, but for some reason find a million other things to do first, that are way more easy and entertaining.
Its called procrastination, and it doesn’t need a degree to know how to do it! It comes naturally. You have to be really disciplined to avoid this trait, otherwise you never achieve anything.
Other obstacles I have had to overcome are cash flow, not having the right knowledge and skill to do what I wanted to do, working from home, learning how to do my own marketing, social media, and video editing, having enough time in the day to accomplish everything, fitting in time with family, and attending to domestic tasks like we all have to do.
The fact is, that everything takes time and energy, and in some cases, money to invest in the knowledge and skill I have needed to advance.
What I have learnt is that it’s no good beating yourself up over it all. You either want to reach the goal or you let obstacles get in your way and block you.
The best thing to do is plan to work, and then work the plan. Set goals, and break it down into easy, manageable tasks that you can cross off your list one by one. If that means doing it by the hour, day, week or month, then that’s what has to happen.
Another great tip is to tackle the most difficult things first. Turn off your email and social media if you have to concentrate on something. Have one hour of power, where you work solidly to achieve a result.
If you need expert help, go and find it. If I told you how much I have invested in my own knowledge and skill for what I do, it would freak you out. But I looked upon it as an investment, not just in me, but in what I can teach other people too.
I know that not everyone has the time, or inclination to do what I have done, but I wasn’t prepared to look at a fence and not climb it.
Another thing I do is to review my progress and write down my wins for the day. It might be the smallest thing, but if it has moved me forward, it’s a win. If you don’t recognize what you have done, its even harder to start the next task or day with a positive outlook.
I’ve been reviewing some of my notes today, and let me tell you there are heaps of reasons salon owners are being held back in their businesses.
Some of the most common ones are:
- Staff not being motivated
- Staff not knowing how to retail
- Customer service skills are lacking
- Low Staff confidence and morale for rebooking and retailing
- Lack of marketing skills or how to implement easy marketing strategies
- Not being able to identify their market
- Not knowing how to attract new clients
- Being able to keep existing clients
- What products to have in their salon
- Establishing a point of difference
A big one that I feel really passionate about helping you with is the lack of self belief and confidence some of you have in being able to achieve what you want.
You know the sad thing? Well, all of those obstacles above are addressed and can be resolved by investing in you and your team.
So, if you want to know more and how I can help you, register for a confidential conversation with me below and together we can work on breaking down the obstacles and achieving results.
I look forward to speaking with you,
