The last week of trade before Christmas is so exciting, your salon is a buzz, you are fully booked, and you’re making loads of retail sales that’s making your cash register sing.
It’s a hard week too, not only do you have more tasks to perform in keeping the salon clean and welcoming, as the salon owner, you also have to be keeping an eye on your staff, how they are managing the extra workload, and coming together as a team. It only takes one person to drop the ball, whether its your most senior staff member or the trainee, and that can have serious effects on the whole team if its not dealt with quickly, professionally, and with grace.
My other tips for having a successful pre Christmas week are:
- Keep your standards high, don’t accept mediocrity, sloppiness lack of care or attention to detail.
- Be the leader, offer help, support, encouragement with words of praise for a job well done, a client well looked after, or a fabulous retail goal met.
- Watch for the star, the staff member who shines out from the rest, in her presentation, communication and results. This is the standard you will set your benchmark on to encourage other staff to do the same.
- Make sure you acknowledge positive actions from your staff, especially during times of stress. They will appreciate this more than incentives and reward you accordingly.
Above all, enjoy the week, and be thinking of how you are going to keep the momentum happening in January and February when clients traditionally are away or have other expenses that come first.
Your thought for this week:
Are you aware of the cost to your business of having an image that is sabotaging your growth and success? The image your staff and your salon portray has a direct impact on existing and future clients, clients who pay your rent, your bills, your suppliers, your wages and you. If you leave this unattended, you could be losing thousands of dollars in business. Your competitor might just be the one who has taken action towards implementing Business4Beauty. Will they be the salon you lose your clients to?
I can help. Start the New Year with a new approach and image, and watch your profits grow.
