Selecting the right staff for your salon can be crucial to how successful your business will be.
I know, I’ve had some great staff, who you can trust with your life to do the right thing, to always be on time, look great, perform well, and really convey the overriding message you want your clients to see, hear and experience.
I have also had staff who were not so great. These staff are the ones who have no passion or purpose. They really don’t know where they are heading and what they want to achieve personally from the industry.
I used to ask the question when I first interviewed them ‘Why are you in the industry, and where do you see yourself heading?’ It was a way of me uncovering their suitability for this industry, and whether with assistance on personal grooming and presentation, communication skills and sales training, I could be successful in helping this person transition from college to salon and become a valuable asset to my business.
Skills can be learned, and relearned, but if the attitude, motivation and belief was not there, they would never see their role as anything more than a staff member with a job. No accountability, responsibility or vision for improvement.
The salon industry needs a higher standard of staff in order to help build their businesses, and in turn provide greater recognition and rewards.
A recent release of a Beauty Industry survey identifies that these exact qualities are potentially lacking in staff, hence it is vital that programs that focus on teaching and empowering individuals to attract greater opportunities to succeed are sought out and employed.
If you have staff members who you feel can improve through some specific training on any of the above issues, contact me now on the link below, or sign up for the 5 part video series coming soon.
Your task for this week:
Take a moment to consider each staff member you have. Are they working to help you build your business or are they sabotaging all of your hard work without even realizing it?
What would it mean to you to know you can walk away from your salon and know that your business is in capable hands? You leave your comments below.
