First Impressions are the most powerful of all encounters you will make with others, especially your potential clients
How you look, act and behave can make the difference as to whether they want to get to know you better, and develop a relationship with you, which of course can result in business directly and indirectly in the future.
Next time you are meeting someone for the first time whom you want to make a great first impression, take time to double check:
- Do I look professional and consistent with my position and environment?
- Is my appearance working for me? Style, colour, grooming, needs to be flawless.
- Can I comfortably express my personality within how I look?
- Is this how others would expect me to look?
- What language is right for this person?
- What else do I need to consider to appear respectful to this person (culturally, age, gender, past experience, qualification etc.)?
The more you review planned first meetings, the better you will become and will create the right impression to propel you and your business forward quickly and easily.
This Week’s Task
How many first encounters will you be likely to experience this week? What can you do ensure you make the right first impression on everyone?
Question
Have you ever confidently thought that you had won a client over only to be told otherwise? Do you think it might have been due to the impression you made on them from the start? You can leave your comments here.

YOU GO GIRL! Good luck with the success of your book. I recently attended a hair show and was totally devastated with the appearance of the attendees. GROSS attire, obesity everywhere, hardly anybody “looked” like a professional – especially a professional in the BEAUTY business. I saw very few persons that I would even consider letting touch me much less advise me in hair styles or any other beauty/fashion tip for that matter. Something must be done to keep this industry alive and well. You are a pioneer and I thank you!

Love this topic, I have been a stylist, educator and salon owner for 40 years. When I first started I assisted a stylist ( and we are still friends, amazing) and she always said, “we have to dress our best and look the part, we are in the beauty/fashion industry. People in the salon always asked us where we were going? We would tell them no where just came to work and we were always the busiest, I must say. Then, when I became an educator, I was taught and still follow this rule, you must always be better dressed then the best dressed person in the room. So many in the salon wonder why they are not busy and cannot attract clients, yes you must be good at your craft, but, you must look and speak the part. The salon where I freelance lance is great, everyone always looks great and knows how to speak to clients and one another, I just love it! Yvonne and bob Clark I love your comment!!!

You go guys!!! Like Sal said about the clients asking “where they were going”, a lot of our clients would just stop by the salon to see what we were wearing or to ask about fashion tips/trends. Back in the day, Sal, you remember, we were the leaders in the beauty/fashion businesses. I’d really like to see that make a come back…. I just don’t think corporate America is any example of how to dress or treat/serve other people. There is no beauty in greed!!!
