Do you know how your body language is affecting your results?
“The bottom line when it comes to body language at work is to remember that you are not at home, you are not with family, and there are certain norms and expectations you need to follow in the workplace.
A common mistake made by young workers is to assume that a friendly work environment means they can use body language more typical of a casual/social situation.”
This certainly is not the case, and so in todays video I want to share with you 7 ways you and your staff can give positive body language vibes.
- Maintaining good eye contact shows respect and interest in what your clients have to say. Aim to keep this around 60-70% of the time during the initial salon consultation. Any less and you give off a signal that you are lacking interest in them and their problems.
- Show you’re friendly, listening and interested by tilting your head just a little to one side or the other.
- Use an open hand gesture with the palms facing up. Avoid pointing with an index finger or thumb as this appears rude. Having your palms slightly up and outward is seen as open and friendly.
- Respect client’s personal space. This is particularly important in the hair and beauty business. Don’t get too close as this looks pushy and intrusive.
- Angle yourself fully towards your salon client to show interest.
- Hold your head up. Slouching or lowering your chin can give the impression you’re in a bad or lazy mood and don’t feel like helping anyone. Not a good look for exceptional customer service!
- Crossing your arms or legs appears defensive and ‘closing down’ so avoid it at all costs.
As a final tip always give a genuine smile.
Now, when you’ve finished watching this, be observant and have a look at how your team are measuring up…
It could mean the difference between gaining a client and losing one.
Excellence is no accident,
This is Julie Hyne, wishing you salon brilliance and success.
