When it comes to creating a great first impression, yes, what people see is important, but it’s not all about what you wear. There are so many other aspects of your impression that you need to contemplate.
When we are looking to define your Image or brand we do so by evaluating that in 5 ways. Now, much of this has been discussed already, but in essence, your image comprises your:
- Inner image
- Assumed image or reputation
- Visual image
- Experienced image
- Proven image
If you are lacking in any one area, it could mean that your whole image suffers. It’s not just enough to put on a fabulous uniform and think that everyone will pay attention to you and love what they see. You need to follow through on every level to uphold the business name on the uniform if it has one, and then most importantly, uphold the impression you want other people to have of you as a professional.
Prompted, could you define each of the areas of your image as it is today?
Probably not, as many of us really don’t stop to think about how well we are going in these areas of our business. We become caught up in the hype of doing business, instead of working on our business, our identity and brand.
Image is not just about having a great logo designed and fancy uniforms, it means that you are servicing the pants off your clients to create a fabulous experience, and you do that with having 100% alignment between your vision, your staff and the products you use. Every time a client communicates with you, your brand and image is delivering the right message, through your staff, your written and verbal communication, your products, your appearance, and follow up. That’s what Image is about.
This Week’s Task
From your perception of what your Image looks like, describe for yourself a few additional aspects of your image that you might not remind yourself of every day. For example:
- Describe your attitude, is it positive or negative?
- What motivates you?
- What is my reputation looking like today?
- Do I look like the professional I want to be?
- Have my clients walked away feeling fabulous and cared for?
- Am I consistent with all of my business dealings and relationships?
If you can honestly be confident that you are ‘in tune’ with the right image you want and need, then congratulations.
If on the other hand you know there are gaps to fill, or to work on, then don’t delay, I can help you.
