Would you like to double your business? Of course you would, but often, we get stuck, or have a fear of trying again because what we have already tried didn’t work.
There’s a great quote by Jim Rohn that goes like this; “For every disciplined effort there is a multiple reward.”
Now if anyone knows this is true, its me. Nobody ever achieved anything of value in life I believe by not working hard. Which leads me to the 3rd question in this mini series of questions that we are working on.
What strategies have you already tried to improve your business that worked, and that didn’t work? I recall when I owned my salon, that I tried so many strategies, usually those that other people suggested I tried, and, because I was motivated to turn my business into a salon that attracted high paying, loyal clients who rebooked, and were fans of all the promotions, VIP nights and products, I took on board all the advice I could muster, hoping for miracles, the magic pixi dust that would turn my staff into super charged sales people, who every client loved, trusted and came to them for every beauty treatment, product and piece of advice they needed.
Do you want to know what happened?
Very little… Until I took this information that I had paid for by the way, into something that was meaningful to me, my vision and my business.
You see, too often as business owners, we get frightened. We can see in black and white that things aren’t going as well as we want them to, and begin this enormous blaming game of who and what is responsible for the demise.
If you have been in this situation and some of you will know how it feels, there are 2 things you can do. Stay doing what you are doing now, or give yourself a kick up the butt and sit down to work out what the problem is. If you don’t know what the problem is, then you need help.
As a salon owner, you have so many resources available for you to seek information,
- engage others in Facebook group discussions,
- attend webinars,
- workshops, or if you really want to hone in on what specifically you can do to turn your business around,
- find an expert who has walked in your shoes, had the ups and downs but who can also contribute realistic, rational and practical strategies for you to follow… and this is key, that they meet with your business, your staff, and your objectives.
No point working with someone just because others are. You have to feel comfortable with them, confident that what they represent and how they deliver their message is what you and your business needs.
I have met quite a few salon owners who have regretted their decision to work with outside people for instead of it helping their situation, they’ve ended up with resentment amongst their staff, complaints from clients and even resignations.
That’s a strategy you don’t want to employ.
But, if you don’t take anything else away from this blog post, you do need to be disciplined. Disciplined to shake off the guilt, the fear, the uncertainty of giving it another go and try other options.
So whats the secret to doubling your business? Get to know and really understand your business, your clients, your purpose and of course your staff. If you have a great team aligned with your vision, the products you stock and the promises they deliver, you have a great recipe for doubling your business.
