How people see you really is important for you to understand. I know I am emphasizing the point here, but so many salon owners, therapists and stylists for that matter, just don’t give it a second thought, and arrive in to work looking like something the cat dragged in… no makeup, hair not done, clothes or uniform not pressed, and then expect their clients to accept how they present as being professional! Don’t you think your clients would love to arrive for their appointment to see a professionally groomed, well spoken, attentive, positive person who is interested in them? Or do you think that they are happy to be greeted by someone still applying their makeup because they were late to work, who haven’t prepared for your appointment, and who is not in uniform or at least setting an example of how wonderful they can make you look?
Have you ever asked your client what image they have of you? Would you be game to ask the hard question?
There are 4 stages of competence that people will go through before they accept that something has to change, and it can be a painful and hard reality check.
There is no room for complacency in an industry that is totally dependent on selling hope to your clients to look and feel fabulous. If you don’t look and act the part yourself, then you are running the risk of your clients being impressed and wooed by your competition.
If you are losing clients and don’t know why, remember, if nothing changes, nothing changes!
This Week’s Task
Don’t be ignorant to Image. Draw a picture, cut out a photo, write a description of how you want your clients to see you? Do you marry up? What needs to change? You can leave your comments here.
Yvonne Parkel says
While it is true that I “dressed up” every single day for work, my “style” was, shall we say, individual. My clients appreciated my enthusiasm, creativity, diversity, and daring. I balanced that with multiple diplomas and certificates of attendance from well known schools of advanced training(Stateside and abroad) and continuing education in my chosen field of cosmetology, management, people skills and public speaking. I got to do my thing and they got the service they wanted and deserved. Our relationships lasted for over 25 wonderful years. I’d say their image of me was one of amazement and amusement with respect and appreciation.
